Ohrigstad Laerskool

Onder leiding van Kmdt P B Swart en mnre C van Bouillon, P G van der Merwe en M D de Clerk is daar teen ongeveer 1906 op Ohrigstad ‘n Christelike-Nasionale Onderwys (Privaatskool) geopen met mnr de Jong as onderwyser. Hy was egter nie voldoende gekwalifiseer nie en die skool is na drie maande gesluit.

Kirkia Wilmsii

Family: Kirkiaceae
Common names: mountain kirkia, wild pepper tree, mountain seringa (Eng.); bergsering, wildepeperboom (Afr.); Modumela (Northern Sotho)

This medium to large tree has a spreading, irregular canopy that presents a spectacular sight when in full, bright red autumn colours. Any gardener with a medium to large garden will welcome this as a pleasing addition to their garden.

Maepa Primary School: 1939 – 2008

HISTORY
The old building behind the modern structure was built in 1939. Little is known to who was involved in the construction, who designed it, who built it and how long it took.
What is clearly visible, is the primitive method of construction. Rocks were used for bricks, and red mud was used for mortar. The doors and window frames were made from wood and the roof is made out of sheets of corrugated iron.
However, the first days of the school dates back much earlier than 1939 when the old structure was built. Local folklore speculates that the first classes were held in old mud and reet structures as early as the beginning of the 1920’s making Maepa Primary School nearly 90 years old.

Ohrigstad is 'n klein nedersetting ongeveer 52 kilometer noordoos van Lydenburg, op die pad na Hoedspruit in die Laeveld en langs die treinspoor vanaf Belfast na Steelpoort. Die dorp lê tussen 24° 32' en 24° SS' suiderbreedtegrade en 28° 32' en 28° 42'oosterlengtegrade en op 'n hoogte van 1 166 meter bo seespieël. In 1970 was die inwonertal 86 blankes en 93 swartes. Vandag is daar sowat 300 blankes in die vallei woonagtig.
